MOSCOW, October 19. Gazprom and the Chinese CNPC at a meeting in China discussed bilateral strategic cooperation and signed an additional agreement to the gas purchase and sale agreement along the “eastern” route for an additional volume of Russian gas supplies to China until the end of the year, Gazprom reported.
“A working meeting between Alexey Miller and Chairman of the Board of Directors of CNPC (China) Dai Houliang took place in Beijing. The parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral strategic cooperation,” says a message on the company’s Telegram channel. In particular, reliable gas supplies from Russia to China along the “eastern” route – the Power of Siberia gas pipeline – were highly appreciated, the gas group noted.
«During the meeting, Gazprom and CNPC signed an Additional Agreement to the Purchase Agreement sales of gas along the “eastern” route for additional volumes of Russian gas supplies to China until the end of 2023,” Gazprom also reported.

Special attention was paid to the implementation of the supply project along the “Far Eastern” route, the report says. The gas pipeline is currently being designed. Once the project reaches full capacity, the volume of Russian pipeline gas supplies to China will increase by 10 billion cubic meters and in total will reach 48 billion cubic meters per year.

Miller informed Dai Houliang about the progress of design work on the Soyuz Vostok gas pipeline project in Mongolia, which will be a continuation of the promising Russian gas pipeline «Power of Siberia — 2», Gazprom adds. Deliveries through it are expected in the amount of up to 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

“The meeting noted the successful interaction of the companies in other areas, including cooperation in the areas of underground gas storage, scientific and technical development and personnel training,” the Russian company said in a statement. Gazprom and CNPC also signed an updated version of the Agreement on cooperation in the field of mutual recognition of standards and conformity assessment results to replace the one in force since 2016.
In 2022, 15.4 billion cubic meters were supplied through the Power of Siberia, in 2023 the figure expected at 22 billion cubic meters, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak previously reported. The head of Rosneft, executive secretary of the Russian Presidential Commission on the Strategy for the Development of the Fuel and Energy Complex and Environmental Safety, Igor Sechin, said that Russian gas exports to China in 2023 will exceed 30 billion cubic meters. The Power of Siberia's full capacity of 38 billion cubic meters is expected to reach its full capacity in 2025–2027.
