MOSCOW, 17 Oct. Western countries wanted to deprive Russia of its legal capacity through restrictive measures, but it was the European Union that suffered primarily from them, said French MEP Thierry Mariani.

The sanctions, designed to damage the Russian economy, hit primarily the United States and Europe and led to rising prices for fuel and food in these regions.
Moscow called the actions of Washington and Brussels an economic war, but emphasized that that they were ready for such a scenario.
