MOSCOW, 17 Oct. The United States could face a catastrophic situation in which it would have to fight a two-front war with Russia and China, writes Ted Galen Carpenter, a senior security fellow at the Cato Institute, in an article for The American Conservative.

Henry Kissinger always emphasized that Washington must constantly strive to have relations with Moscow and Beijing that would be better than their relations with each other. But American officials, starting with the administration of George W. Bush, ignored this advice, and the United States gradually began to try to fight the Cold War on two fronts at once,” the expert noted.
Carpenter pointed out the fallacy of such a strategy as it would ultimately create a disastrous situation for the American people. The administration of United States President Joe Biden appears to be unable to make a fundamental decision about which country — Russia or China — to consider as America's main adversary, the expert argues.
In his opinion, Washington is trying its best to dislike both of them great powers. Such an approach not only creates the risk of a very dangerous situation of US strategic overextension, but also brings Moscow and Beijing closer together, Carpenter recalled.
The expert suggested that the American authorities make a wise decision and abandon the increasingly difficult and thankless efforts to maintain global superiority USA, as well as try to improve relations with both Russia and China.
