MOSCOW, Oct 20. Ukraine will not be able to defeat Russia even with the colossal sums allocated by the West, writes retired American Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis in an article for the publication Responsible Statecraft.
“
“There is no likely path to military victory for Kiev, no matter how much money Congress allocates, how many tanks we (USA — editor's note) provide, or how many artillery shells we produce. The time has come to recognize this obvious truth,” the publication says.
The expert notes that the West spent enormous resources on the Ukrainian counter-offensive, but it did not live up to expectations and resulted in “mind-blowing losses” in manpower and equipment for the Ukrainian Armed Forces . In addition, political chaos in Washington and the explosive situation in the Middle East could distract public attention from the sound due diligence required to understand whether it makes sense to increase funding to Ukraine.
“If Ukraine has failed to break through the Russian defensive line after four months of attacks, six months of preparation, $46 billion in military aid, and significant intelligence support, then on what grounds can proponents of additional funding argue that giving it another multi-billion dollar package will lead to success? where all previous efforts have failed? They have no such basis,» Davis writes.
He comes to the conclusion that the American authorities do not have a specific plan to stop hostilities in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have been trying to advance in the Zaporozhye, Yuzhnodonets and Artemovsk directions since the beginning of June, throwing units into battle, trained and armed by NATO. As Vladimir Putin emphasized, they failed to achieve significant success on any sector of the front. According to him, during all this time, the sanitary and irretrievable losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine amounted to over 90 thousand people, and the loss of equipment — 557 tanks and almost 1900 armored vehicles of various classes.
