According to investigators, after the 2019 flood, they illegally “moved” unidentified citizens into emergency housing, and then provided them with new housing as those in need of relocation. The suspects subsequently sold the resulting property and embezzled the money. According to the prosecutor's office, we are talking about 4 million rubles.
On Monday, the mayor of Tulun, Yuri Karikh, was detained. His duties are temporarily performed by the deputy mayor of the city — chairman of the committee on construction and urban services Andrey Nizhegorodtsev. The Investigative Committee and the prosecutor's office petitioned for the arrest of Karikh.
«The prosecutor's office supported the investigation's request to choose a preventive measure for him. The Kirovsky District Court of Irkutsk, taking into account the position of the prosecutor, took the 56-year-old man into custody until December 1, 2023 «, the agency's interlocutor said.
He also noted that earlier the investigator had placed three defendants under recognizance not to leave the place, and two more were limited by the court in certain actions.
