Astronomers have discovered the most distant «fast radio burst» ever

MOSCOW, Oct 19 An international team of researchers has detected a distant burst of cosmic radio waves lasting less than a millisecond, the most distant «fast radio burst» (FRB) ever detected, it said European Southern Observatory.
The source was discovered by the Chile-based Very Large Telescope (VLT) in a galaxy so far away that its light took eight billion years to reach Earth.
““In addition, this “fast radio burst” is one of the most energetic on record: in a tiny fraction of a second, it released energy equivalent to the total radiation of our Sun over 30 years,” the Germany-based observatory said.
As noted, the flare, dubbed FRB 20220610A, was discovered in June last year using the ASKAP radio telescope in Australia and broke the previous range record by 50%.

““Fast radio bursts” in modern astrophysics are single radio pulses of a few milliseconds of unknown nature recorded by radio telescopes. A fast radio burst was discovered for the first time and completely by accident in February 2007.
