
MOSCOW, October 17. Russian pianist Elisey Mysin, at the age of 12, won first prize at the International Frederic Chopin Competition in Nashville (USA) in the category from 16 to 22 years old, according to the competition’s official Facebook account*.
In addition to first place, the musician received the Audience Award.
According to the terms of the competition, participants could change age categories, so Elisha competed with older competitors.
The Chopin Competition in Nashville was held on October 14 and 15, 2023 in three age categories: “6 — 10 years old”, “11 — 15 years old» and «16 — 22 years old». 26 musicians from different countries made it to the finals, with Mysin being the only one representing Russia.
The musician was born in 2010 in Stavropol, and began learning to play the piano at the age of four. Now he is studying at the Central Music School at the Moscow Conservatory (classes of Professor Natalia Trull and Daniil Tsvetkov).
Previously, Mysin was a participant in the all-Russian television competition «Blue Bird». He is also a fellow of the New Names Foundation. In 2020 and 2021, he won the first prize at the Vladimir Krainev Moscow Piano Competition.
The Grand Prix at the International Frederic Chopin Competition in Nashville was won by the Austrian Kiron Atom Tellian. In March, the organizing committee announced that the main prize would be named in honor of the Soviet, Russian and American pianist Alexei Sultanov.
He was born in the USSR, in Tashkent, studied at the conservatory in Moscow, then lived in the United States and concertized around the world. The musician died on July 30, 2005 at the age of 35 from heart failure.
