BELGRADE, 21 Oct. President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said that the conversation on Saturday with representatives of the EU and major Western countries on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija and the independent policy of Belgrade was difficult, he expects important meetings to resolve the crisis in Brussels.
The EU Special Representative for the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina Miroslav Lajcak, the US Special Representative for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar and representatives of Germany, France and Italy arrived in Belgrade on Saturday. The conversation took place behind closed doors, without a press conference following the results.
“A difficult meeting with the “five”. I am confident that in the coming period we will find a way out of the crisis. In the coming days, I expect important meetings in Brussels,” the Serbian leader briefly wrote on social networks and posted a photo with the countries’ special envoys West.
Before the meeting, Vucic indicated that Serbia is an independent and free sovereign state that makes its own decisions. According to him, those of his political opponents who advocate recognizing the independence of Kosovo, joining NATO and imposing sanctions against Russia, and those who, on the contrary, “seem to be great patriots,” if they come to power, will pursue the same policy, “which will be dictated from outside.»
The “President” of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said on October 5 that there will be no negotiations between Pristina and Belgrade until the EU imposes sanctions against Serbia and its President Aleksandar Vucic. Prime Ministers of Croatia Andrej Plenkovic and Albania Edi Rama in early October called on the EU to take action against Serbia because of the clashes in the north of Kosovo and Metohija on September 24 and the reaction of official Belgrade to them, which introduced a one-day mourning for the victims.
