A group of scientists led by Takato Kusakabe from Cornell University came to the conclusion that the presence of yeast fungi Candida albicans in the intestinal microbiota increases the risk of severe course of the coronavirus COVID-19 and “long covid”.
The authors of the work published in the journal Nature Immunology concluded that fungi cause excessive activation of the immune system during coronavirus.
