MOSCOW, Oct. 23The Republic of Korea Air Force plans to develop a manned-unmanned combat aircraft system by 2040, involving the control of several UAVs with artificial intelligence by one fighter, Yonhap news agency reported.
“»Taking into account changes in the nature of combat operations and in advanced scientific and technological (achievements — ed.), we plan to obtain unmanned aerial vehicles capable of conducting reconnaissance and delivering high-precision strikes… This concept assumes that one or two manned fighters will carry out missions by controlling four to eight unmanned fighters with artificial intelligence. This will allow for operations that will be difficult to predict, and it will be possible to use several drones to conduct surveillance of large areas and carry out precision strikes on multiple targets,» an Air Force representative said during a parliamentary meeting. verification to which the agency refers.
According to a military representative, the system will be created for the 4++ generation KF-21 multirole fighter currently being developed by South Korea, while the UAVs interacting with it will also be designed on the basis of this fighter.
It is assumed that the creation of integrated manned-unmanned systems will make it possible to effectively use a variety of combat capabilities in the air using minimal human resources. This will also help the pilot in assessing the rapidly changing combat situation due to the high data processing speed of the UAV.
