MOSCOW, October 24 Russian presidential elections still have not been appointed, but they will take place in any case. As for voting under martial law, a special situation requires additional legislative initiatives, which is what is happening, said the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
«Naturally, they (Russian presidential elections ) have not been appointed. But they are approaching. And they will take place in any case. And of course, a certain special situation, including in our new regions, requires additional legislative initiatives and decisions. That’s actually what’s happening,” Peskov told reporters at the question of how the Kremlin evaluates the work of legislators on amendments to the election law.
Earlier, the State Duma Committee of the Russian Federation on State Construction recommended adopting in the second reading a bill to clarify the provisions of the law “On the Election of the President of the Russian Federation”, introduced by the heads of the committees State Duma and the Federation Council for State Construction by Pavel Krasheninnikov and Andrey Klishas.
Also, amendments are being made to the bill to synchronize the legislation with the previously adopted law on holding elections and referendums during martial law. At the same time, the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation may establish the specifics of the preparation and conduct of presidential elections during the period of martial law in part of the territory of the Russian Federation.
The draft clarifying the provisions of the law on presidential elections in Russia may be adopted in the third reading as early as this week, the head of the committee said State Duma on State Construction Pavel Krasheninnikov.
