Previously, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said that the United States would deploy a battery of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system and additional battalions of Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems in the Middle East. However, he did not specify where exactly they would be located.
As the media writes, citing American officials, the United States is seeking to deploy almost a dozen air defense systems in the Middle East in anticipation of Israel's expected ground operation in Gaza. The Pentagon, according to the publication, is deploying missile launchers in Iraq, Syria and the Persian Gulf countries.
“The Pentagon is sending THAAD to Saudi Arabia, and Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE,” writes WSJ.
The Pentagon, in turn, stated that they had nothing to report about the deployment of complexes in the countries of the Middle East.
