Local authorities: “Elimination of the consequences may last several months”
In Ukraine, they continue to discuss yesterday’s explosions in the Khmelnitsky region. We already wrote that yesterday Russian drones struck warehouses in Slavuta. However, until today no one has been able to explain the consequences of this strike, which resulted in glass being blown out all the way in the administrative building of the Khmelnitsky NPP.
President Zelensky, however, in his evening address tried to accuse Russia of deliberately targeting the nuclear power plant. However, experts say that if it had been aimed, it would have hit. And most importantly, nuclear power plants have never been and cannot be the target of the Russian Aerospace Forces. Another thing is ammunition depots.
The question of why the Ukrainian authorities needed to create an arsenal next to the nuclear power plant will be left out of the question. Thanks to informants from Ukraine, it became known what exactly was stored there. According to military observer Sergei Lebedev, yesterday the attack hit a train with missiles and shells being unloaded at the arsenal. Western partners have delivered another batch of “missiles for the HIMARS MLRS, as well as tank rounds containing uranium.” They rushed so powerfully.
According to the deputy head of the Khmelnytsky police department Sergei Tyurin, 1,760 objects were damaged. In the Shepetovsky district, 282 damaged apartment buildings, 1,404 private houses, 41 educational institutions, six healthcare facilities, 14 cultural institutions and two churches were registered. We're talking mostly about flying glass. “The industrial zone of the city received the greatest damage. Elimination of the consequences may last several months,” he said.
Experts have repeatedly warned that shells with depleted uranium cause harm primarily to Ukraine itself. Therefore, the background radiation in the Khmelnitsky region is now probably increased. It is beneficial for the Ukrainian authorities to blame this on the shelling of nuclear power plants. However, since the station is absolutely intact, and only the windows of the administration building were blown out by the blast wave, we will have to come up with clever explanations for this phenomenon.
