In Iran, 16-year-old Armita Geravand died, detained by police without a hijab

In one of the hospitals In Iran, 16-year-old Armita Geravand died, who was taken to doctors in early October with a severe head injury. The girl's death was reported by Reuters on Saturday with reference to the Iranian news agency Irna.

As it became known earlier, on October 1, in the metro in Tehran, local police officers approached Armita and demanded that she cover her head — the girl was not wearing a headscarf. A conflict occurred, then, according to human rights activists, the police used force on the girl, pushed her, she fell and received a head injury. A few days later, Armita fell into a coma; last week the media reported that doctors recorded brain death in the patient.

Iranian authorities claim that the police did not beat the girl and that she allegedly hit herself, falling from a sudden decrease in blood pressure pressure.

A year ago in Iran, 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died under mysterious circumstances, whom police detained because she wore a hijab “not in accordance with government standards.” The morality police claimed that the girl suddenly suffered a heart attack and fell into a coma before doctors arrived. Witnesses to the arrest stated that the police beat her severely. The death of Mahsa Amini led to a series of protests in Iran.
