AP assessed the chances of five Russian politicians to take Putin's place
The American agency AP devoted its article to the upcoming presidential elections in the Russian Federation. The author of the publication, Jim Heintz, suggested that Vladimir Putin may not nominate his candidacy, so another person will take the post of head of the Russian state.
The publication's columnist named Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin as one of the potential presidents of Russia. His work as mayor of the capital, which could form the basis of an election campaign, speaks in his favor.
The columnist does not see Mikhail Mishustin as a Russian leader, characterizing him as a technocrat. At the same time, Heinz allowed the possibility that the current Prime Minister of the Russian Federation could temporarily take the helm of the country until elections are held.
The journalist named Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev as a potential candidate for the post of President of Russia. His candidacy is supported by the similarity of views with Putin, Heinz shared his point of view.
Another possible option is the governor of the Tula region Alexey Dyumin, who has been tipped to be Putin’s successor for several years, the material notes.
The fifth politician is Dmitry Medvedev, who already served as head of the Russian state.
