Conductor and artistic director of the St. Petersburg Shostakovich Philharmonic, Yuri Temirkanov, died at the age of 85, the press service of the Philharmonic reported.< br />“It is with deep regret that we inform you that today the artistic director of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Yuri Temirkanov, has passed away,” the statement says.
Yuri Temirkanov has been the artistic director and chief conductor of the honored ensemble of Russia, the Academic Symphony Orchestra of St. -Petersburg Philharmonic. Temirkanov has made numerous recordings with the Philharmonic Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the National Danish Radio Orchestra. All of Igor Stravinsky's ballets and all of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's symphonies have been recorded with the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Temirkanov.
