Russian troops launched an Iskander-M missile attack on soldiers of the Ukrainian 128th separate mountain assault brigade, located in the Zaporozhye region. This was reported by the press service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The release states that military personnel, as well as local residents, were killed and injured as a result of the attack. Their exact number is not specified.
The day before, on November 4, Nv.ua and Focus publications reported that a Russian missile hit the Ukrainian military in one of the front-line settlements during an awards ceremony on the occasion of Artilleryman's Day. According to a source from Ukrayinska Pravda, more than 20 people could have died as a result of the attack. Journalist Andrey Tsaplienko writes in his Telegram channel that among the victims is “one of the best artillerymen” of Ukraine, Dmitry Milyutin.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov expressed condolences to the families of the victims and instructed his subordinates to conduct an investigation into the circumstances of the death of the military personnel.
The 128th separate mountain assault brigade was formed in Transcarpathia. The head of the region, Viktor Mykyta, declared three days of mourning.
