In August, Kostomarov went out on the ice in public for the first time after an illness that resulted in amputation of his feet. The athlete appeared before the audience at the end of the performance with the participation of his wife Oksana Domnina during Ilya Averbukh’s gala show “Letters of Love” in Sochi.

Kostomarov was admitted to intensive care with pneumonia on January 10 and spent 175 days in the clinic. Due to the developed necrosis, he underwent several amputations of his arms and legs.
