Reflections on the Ukrainian presidential elections
Zelensky thought for a very long time and finally declared that the presidential elections are now beneficial only to Moscow. The logic is simple: what is good for Moscow cannot be done under any circumstances. But why then are Western politicians, especially American senators, insisting on elections in the spring of 2024? It was none other than Lindsey Graham who, in August of this year, right on Ukraine’s Independence Day in Kiev, said: “The time has come to take the next step in establishing democracy in Ukraine — to hold elections in 2024.” After which everything started to happen…
Of course, Moscow has very long arms. We say “Trump was elected president.” But we can't get to Senator Graham's brain. It was he who said: “When Russians die, this is the best investment of US money.” And he did this regarding military assistance to Ukraine. He also called for the physical removal of the Russian President. So we can’t call him our agent. You can call him an «idiot». That’s exactly what Trump openly called him. And behind our backs are many of the Republicans.
So, maybe Graham is a “useful idiot” for Moscow? But no. Not all idiots are equally useful. In August, when the senator lectured Kyiv, the Americans bet on Zelensky and tried to strengthen his legitimacy. Now, after the failure of the “offensive”, it seems that some are betting on Commander-in-Chief Zaluzhny.
Zaluzhny publishes articles in the Western press, which Zelensky then publicly argues with. Can you imagine that the Russian Minister of Defense published an article about the SVO in the Chinese People's Daily, and a week later the Russian President said, again publicly, that he did not agree with him?
Well, okay, that's what we have here is Mordor. But in the United States, it is also impossible to imagine a newspaper controversy between President Biden and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
I will say more: in no normal country in the world will the Minister of Defense speak in the press, especially foreign ones, without the consent of the presidential administration. Come on, it's in the press. The military refuses to go on “meat assaults” on the orders of President Zelensky. And the president dismisses senior military leaders (for example, the commander of the Special Operations Forces, General Viktor Khorenok) without the consent of Commander-in-Chief Zaluzhny. The mess is simply highly artistic. And why should stopping all this “beauty” be in Russia’s interests?
It is clear that any historical analogy is lame. And very often — on both legs. But, for example, the assassination attempt on Hitler on July 20, 1944. Would it be beneficial for the USSR if the rebellion of German generals was successful? If the briefcase with the bomb had not been pushed under the table, Hitler would have been torn to shreds?
I, of course, am not an expert on this period, but I think that the elimination of the then half-insane dictator would not have benefited the Soviet Army. Even if the generals who replaced Hitler had not concluded a separate peace with the allies, the quality of control of the fascist troops would have improved. And it would be more difficult for us.
Zelensky lately, with his bunker, “no one believes in victory more than me,” and hope for some kind of superweapon, is looking more and more like the Fuhrer of 1944–1945. Most likely, this is precisely why Moscow is not making any attempts to eliminate it.
Although, on the other hand, elections during hostilities are also an interesting option. First of all, there is no money. And they will be spent on “democracy”. Then — election campaigning, during which Zelensky will hear a lot of interesting things about himself. And, of course, it will not be possible to count votes honestly in such conditions. And “color revolutions” based on doubts in the vote count have not been canceled. In Ukraine, this technology has been tested for a long time.
So here you won’t even understand what is better. Everything is so delicious… But by and large, Russia doesn’t care. Whether they will be there or not — we, as they said in our school, are “violet.”
The enemy will be defeated. Victory will be ours.
