Israeli journalist Gilad Sade was attacked in Berlin restaurant, reports RIA Novosti with reference to the publication of Bild.
The incident reportedly took place in the center of Berlin at the Ali Baba restaurant, during an event at which “Berlin Welcomes Jews” stickers were distributed. The action was timed to coincide with the filming of a film dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Kristallnacht.
As the journalist reported, a man ran up to him and hit him on the camera and on the head.
“I I didn’t understand what he said, everything happened very quickly. The man's partner was holding a large knife. I was really very scared,” he said.
Law enforcement officers later arrived at the scene. At the same time, the owner of the restaurant himself not only prohibited further holding of the action, but also showed the Israeli journalist threatening gestures hinting at murder.
Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, occurred on the night of November 10, 1938 years in Germany and Austria and became the first mass act of physical violence by the Nazis against Jews. More than 90 people were killed, 30 thousand Jews were captured and sent to concentration camps. The Nazis called these events “Kristallnacht” because the streets were strewn with broken glass from Jewish storefronts and house windows. The night of the pogroms is considered the beginning of the Holocaust, which killed about 6 million people.
