MOSCOW, November 16. The Russian Federation and Algeria are discussing the supply of Russian lamb to the country, as well as fish and finished meat products, reported during a business mission of Russian companies exporting agricultural products in Algeria, assistant to the head of Rosselkhoznadzor Artem Daushev.
The business mission was organized by the Federal State Budgetary Institution «Agroexport» under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and the ministry itself. “Several more certificates are being discussed — for lamb, fish and finished meat products,” Daushev is quoted as saying in Agroexport materials.
Now Russian companies can already supply beef and poultry meat, as well as dairy products and edible eggs to the Algerian market. “We are open to the further development of bilateral cooperation and are ready to implement the agreements reached,” said Feyrouz Bendahman, director of the veterinary service department of the Algerian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The Russian Federation is already one of the largest suppliers of grain for Algeria: in the 2023-2024 export season, the country is in 4th place among the largest buyers of Russian wheat and in 6th place among grain products in general, noted Eduard Zernin, Chairman of the Board of the Union of Grain Exporters. In turn, the Director General of the Algerian Interprofessional Bureau for Grains, Nasreddine Messaoudi, expressed interest in expanding the purchase of barley and other grain products, as well as grocery products.
In addition, supplies of dairy products, primarily milk powder, to Algeria may begin in the near future, said Artem Belov, general director of the National Union of Milk Producers: a number of producers are already negotiating in this direction. Every year Algeria imports up to 400 thousand tons of powdered milk, and the Russian Federation can take “a worthy place among the suppliers of these products,” said the purchasing director of the National Interprofessional Bureau for Milk and Dairy Products of Algeria, Benhacine Rafik.
