SAN FRANCISCO, November 17 Russian delegation at the Asia Summit -Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) has emphasized the importance of shared access to technologies that are critical to the energy transition in the context of climate change, said Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, who heads the Russian delegation to APEC.
“A number of leaders, including us, have emphasized that it is necessary for everyone to have access to technology. Technology today is very critical in order to make the energy transition,” he told reporters.
He emphasized that today no one doubts the existence of a climate agenda.
«They talked about problems associated with the increased number of weather events, they said that there is a real threat of the need to resettle people from coastal zones,» he added.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that in the Pacific Ocean region this problem is particularly acute for some island states and “this is an issue that all countries must solve together.”
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation is a trade and economic forum that includes 21 economies in the Asia-Pacific region. This year's summit takes place from November 11 to 17 in San Francisco, California, concluding the US presidency of APEC in 2023.
