Representatives of the Russian medical community, in an open letter to Vladimir Putin, demanded the release of St. Petersburg artist Sasha Skochilenko, sentenced to seven years in prison in the case of military “fakes.”
As stated in the appeal to the president, doctors are concerned about the condition health Skochilenko. “She has been diagnosed with a number of severe chronic diseases that require proper medical supervision and a special diet. Staying in a colony could lead to a significant deterioration in Sasha’s health,” the letter says.
The authors of the appeal emphasize that the St. Petersburg woman was convicted for “disagreement with the war and a pacifist action that does not violate the law,” in which “there is no substance crimes and victims.» According to doctors, Skochilenko's sentence seems “especially unfair” against the backdrop of news about the parole of prisoners who committed serious crimes such as rape and murder.
As of 16:00, the letter was signed by more than 50 people . Doctors who are ready to sign the appeal can leave comments under the post of surgeon Alexander Vanyukov on Facebook.
The price tag of freedom. What will be remembered about the trial of Sasha Skochilenko, sentenced to 7 years in the case of military “fakes”
On November 16, a court in St. Petersburg sentenced Skochilenko to seven years in a general regime colony. She was found guilty of spreading “fakes” about the army motivated by political hatred (clause “e” of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). The reason for the criminal prosecution of the artist was an anti-war action: the girl replaced price tags in the Perekrestok store with stickers with information about the number of victims of the war in Ukraine and calls to stop it. The girl has been in pre-trial detention since April 2022.
