KRASNODAR, November 20Fanagoria, one of the largest wineries in Russia, harvested more than 36 thousand tons of grapes in 2023, which is 22% lower than last year; the harvest was affected by the summer drought in the Krasnodar region, the company’s press service reported.
“At the end of the harvest season, Fanagoria accepted more than 36 thousand tons of grapes for processing. … This year’s harvest cannot be compared with last year’s excessive harvest, obtained due to the large supply of moisture since 2021. This year, drought has prevailed since July, which «in combination with high temperatures, accelerated the ripening of varieties. However, some of them withered on the vines. And therefore, slightly fewer grapes were obtained than planned,» the report says.
As the press service clarified, last year’s harvest amounted to 46 thousand tons of grapes. It is expected that in 2024, subject to good weather conditions and sufficient moisture levels, the harvest may again reach the level of 2022.
It is noted that 15.5 thousand tons of white varieties were collected, 20 thousand tons of black grapes, and more than 500 tons of pink grapes. The general director of the winery, Peter Romanishin, called the harvest sufficient and above average.
«»And thanks to the optimal performance and high level of sugar content of the harvested grapes, we expect to create many interesting premium products from them that will delight the most discerning consumer. In addition, this year we received the first harvest of such varieties as malbec, syrah and Marselan, which in the future will become the basis for new wonderful wines,” Romanishin is quoted as saying in the release.
The Fanagoria Group of Companies is one of the largest domestic full-cycle winemaking enterprises, located on the Taman Peninsula in the Krasnodar Territory. The company's vineyards cover an area of more than 4 thousand hectares. Products are shipped to most regions of the Russian Federation and exported to China, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
