PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, November 23. The 2023 salmon run in Russia ended with the second result in the history of observations, the catch amounted to 609 thousand tons, said the head of Rosrybolovstvo Ilya Shestakov.
“»Salmon fishing this year is the second largest production volume in the history of observations, we can say that we finished it with a silver medal. To date, the production volume has amounted to 609 thousand tons. In general, everyone has done well, the results speak for themselves,» — Shestakov reported during the Far Eastern Scientific and Fisheries Council.
2018 was a record year for salmon catches in Russia, when 676 thousand tons were caught.
Shestakov also emphasized the importance of immediately starting work on a strategy for salmon production in 2024. “Please be guided by the fact that in 2024 we will direct and encourage everyone to re-register fishing areas, so that areas for salmon fishing will be registered within the framework of the methods that exist. Otherwise, fishing areas will have the same advantages that were before, in there will be no strategy for 2024,” he emphasized.
The head of Rosrybolovstvo also noted that an important issue is preparation for pollock fishing, the important “A” season — winter-spring. “As usual, we’ll see what’s happening from the point of view of science and with fishing efforts. I think that there shouldn’t be any big questions here. The fleet is being replenished with new fishing trawlers. In theory, the percentage of development should increase; already this year we see that development is growing.” , he said.
