The opposition will put forward an initiative in parliament to abolish the state of emergency in Moldova

CHISINAU, Nov 23 Opposition Bloc in Moldova Communists and Socialists (BCS) intends to put forward an initiative at the next parliamentary meeting on Friday to immediately lift the state of emergency in the country.
Earlier, the government of Moldova proposed to parliament to extend the state of emergency in the country for another 30 days. The Moldovan authorities introduced a state of emergency on February 24, 2022, and then extended it several times. Under these conditions, the Emergency Situations Commission can make decisions, without waiting for parliamentary approval, to provide all consumers with energy resources and maintain the energy security of the state. The opposition has repeatedly opposed the extension of the state of emergency.

“At a parliamentary meeting on Friday, the Bloc of Communists and Socialists will again put forward a draft decision on the immediate abolition of the state of emergency… The BCS consistently and clearly opposes the management of public affairs of Moldova in an endless state of emergency. Maia Sandu (President of Moldova — ed.) and PDS (ruling party “Action and Solidarity” — ed.) demonstrate complete cynicism and disrespect for compliance with laws and norms, public opinion, comments and criticism of the opposition and experts,” says a message published in the Telegram channel of the vice-speaker, head of the BKS faction Vlad Batrynchi .
He clarifies that a number of decisions taken by the emergency commission not only go beyond the mandate approved by the parliament of the republic, but also directly violate the country's constitution and international legal norms. “A number of decisions cause direct damage to the public interests and budget of Moldova. All decisions made during the state of emergency will be subject to audit and revision. All those involved will be brought to criminal liability,” the message emphasizes.

There is a state of emergency in Moldova, declared, among other things, due to economic problems. Last year, inflation in the country reached a record 30.2%. Anti-government protests have been taking place in Moldova since May last year. The protesters are outraged by the unprecedented increase in prices for gas, other energy resources and food, as well as high inflation and falling living standards. Protesters accuse the authorities of failing to cope with the crisis and point to record inflation over the past 20 years.
