MOSCOW, November 25. Several EU member countries are in favor of softening Brussels' proposals for sanctions against Russia, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.
“
“The group of member countries (of the European Union. — Ed.) insists on softening the EU proposals aimed at stopping the circumvention of sanctions against Russia through third countries,” the publication says.
< br />According to media reports, the European Commission has proposed banning importers from reselling certain goods to Russia or for use in the country. Another initiative was the requirement for companies to deposit a certain amount into an escrow account, at least half of which would be transferred to a trust fund for Ukraine if the company violated sanctions. At the same time, contracts with it were terminated.
As the agency writes, diplomats representing some large European countries expressed concerns about such proposals, including from the point of view of their legality. They would like to narrow the scope of potential initiatives and the list of goods that would be sanctioned.
They also suggest that additional contract requirements could make European companies less competitive.
