MOSCOW, November 25There is close cooperation between Russian and Turkish companies on the gas hub, the Turkish delegation is planning a visit to St. Petersburg, agreements on the practical implementation of the project will be reached in the near future, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
«As for the gas hub, there is close interaction between Gazprom and the Botas company. A road map is currently being agreed upon. The Turkish delegation plans to arrive in St. Petersburg to get acquainted with the developments. I am sure that in the near future In time, agreements will be reached on the practical implementation of the project,” Novak said in an interview with Rossiya 24.
People first started talking about a Turkish gas hub in October 2022. Then — two weeks after the terrorist attack on Nord Stream — President Vladimir Putin put forward the idea of moving the lost volume of Russian gas transit to the Black Sea region. According to him, it is possible to create a gas hub in Turkey, which would become a platform for supplies to other countries, primarily to Europe, as well as for determining gas prices.
In September 2023, at a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi, the Russian leader said that Moscow expects the negotiations on the creation of a gas hub to be completed soon. Putin returned to this topic during his speech at the Russian Energy Week (REW), noting that he does not see any big problems in creating an electronic trading platform in Turkey.
