CPC discovered damage to the floating hose at the remote berth after the storm

MOSCOW, Nov 30Oil shipments at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal in the Black Sea resumed on Thursday after being stopped due to a storm; an inspection revealed a breakdown of equipment at one of the three remote berths, it taken out of service for repairs, the company reported on its Telegram channel.
On Monday, CPC stopped oil shipments for export due to a storm in the Black Sea; oil was received into the system from shippers at reduced rates due to the high filling of tanks.
“»On November thirtieth, 2023, the sea terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium resumed shipment of oil to tankers, suspended in accordance with the issued storm warnings from the captain of the port of Novorossiysk and actual adverse weather conditions,” the CPC statement says.
«An inspection of floating hoses and remote mooring devices was carried out. Damage to one floating hose of the outer sleeve of the VPU-3 was revealed — a bend in the hose caused by abnormal storm conditions. In this regard … in order to prevent the creation of emergencies associated with oil spills, the VPU-3 decommissioned,» the company also added.

CPC noted that oil transshipment stops due to weather conditions are regular in the autumn-winter period and spring. Currently, oil loading at the terminal is proceeding normally through the two remaining remote berths (SPM-1 and SPM-2). No oil spills have been identified, there are no conditions for creating an emergency, and there are no threats to the population, flora and fauna of the Black Sea, the consortium added.
The CPC oil pipeline system is the largest route for transporting oil from the Caspian region to world markets and the main route for Kazakhstan, accounting for more than two-thirds of the country's exports. The 1,500-kilometer pipeline connects the fields of Western Kazakhstan with the Black Sea coast, where oil is loaded onto tankers through the CPC sea terminal. Among the largest shareholders of the consortium are the Russian Federation (through Transneft), Kazakhstan (through Kazmunaigas), Chevron, Lukoil, ExxonMobil, Rosneft and Shell joint ventures.
