MOSCOW, November 29 In Russia, the unemployment rate reached a historical low and amounted to 2.9 percent, according to the Rosstat report.
«In October, 2.2 million people aged 15 years and over were classified as unemployed (according to the methodology of the International Labor Organization). The unemployment rate for the population aged 15 years and over <…> was 2. 9 percent (without excluding seasonal factors),” the document says.
It is clarified that over the previous three months this figure was at the level of three percent. Moreover, if in September the total number of unemployed people was 2.315 million, then in October it was 2.224 million.
As Rosstat reported, citing data from Rostrud, by the end of October, 0.5 million citizens were registered with the employment service. Of these, 0.4 million people had unemployed status, including 0.3 million receiving unemployment benefits.
Rosstat uses the methodology of the International Labor Organization, according to which those who at the time of the study were simultaneously in need of work, looking for it and ready to start work are considered unemployed.
According to the agency, The number of workers in Russia aged 15 years and older amounted to 76.3 million people in October.
In September, the Ministry of Economic Development predicted the average annual unemployment in the country in 2023-2026 at 3.1 percent. As the ministry explained, this creates risks associated with tensions in the labor market, which need to be mitigated by increasing productivity and ensuring sufficient flexibility of this market.
