MOSCOW, November 29 Film expert, cultural critic, author and TV program presenter Andrei Shemyakin passed away at the age of 68, the press service of the Union of Cinematographers reported.
““Yes, that’s right, the farewell will take place on Friday at 11.00 at the House of Cinema,” said the agency’s interlocutor. The cause of death, according to her, was the consequences of the disease.
Shemyakin was born in 1955, graduated from the Romance-Germanic department of the Faculty of Philology of Moscow State University. In 1981-1989, after full-time graduate school, he worked as a junior researcher at the Gorky Institute of World Literature of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Since 1989, he became a senior, and since 2000, a leading researcher at the Research Institute of Cinematography. In 2011-2015 — President of the Guild of Film Scholars and Film Critics of Russia. For many years, Shemyakin was the author and host of the TV show «Documentary Screen».
