CHISINAU, December 1 The National Agency for Food Safety of Moldova stated that Russia’s decision to impose an embargo on Moldovan fruits and vegetables is unfounded and harms Moldovan producers.
Earlier, Rosselkhoznadzor reported that from December 4 it was forced to return to the restrictions introduced in 2022 on the import of regulated products from Moldova to Russia.
“The decision of the Russian authorities to impose an embargo on Moldovan fruits and vegetables is unfounded and causes damage to Moldovan producers,” says, in particular, a message published on the agency’s website.
The department claims that the Russian embargo has nothing to do with the quality of products from Moldova. “We consider the accusations to be unfounded and hasty,” the document notes.
Temporary restrictions on the import of plant products into Russia from a number of regions of Moldova were introduced by Rosselkhoznadzor from August 15, 2022 due to the unfavorable phytosanitary situation in the republic. In December of the same year, after an analysis of products from Moldovan enterprises, restrictions began to be gradually lifted, and by December 8, supplies were opened to 53 enterprises in Moldova. Now, according to Rosselkhoznadzor, the agency is forced to return to the restrictions introduced in 2022 due to the “systematic detection of quarantine objects in vegetables and fruits that could cause multi-billion-dollar damage to agricultural production in Russia,” as well as “the lack of responses from the Moldovan competent agency to Rosselkhoznadzor’s notes on each of the violations and failure to take effective measures to prevent the supply of contaminated products.»
