MOSCOW, December 1 The Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia (FAS) opened a case against Alfa Bank for violating the law on credit card advertising, the claim was the third in the last month, follows from the department's message.
“»FAS opened a case against Alfa Bank on grounds of violation of advertising legislation… Within a month, this is the third case that the service has opened against Alfa Bank due to misleading consumers and keeping silent about the essential conditions for the provision of one of the products in advertising,» the message says.
«The Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia received appeals from citizens with complaints about the advertising of the Alfa Bank credit card… The form and time of placement of the text in explanatory footnotes did not allow consumers to receive all the information necessary for an informed choice,» the message said.
Thus, in the video, in large print, information was indicated about the possibility of annual interest-free use of the card. In addition, the advertisement announced in large print that a 100% cashback was provided for the first purchase. At the same time, significant information about the conditions for obtaining an interest-free period, the maximum cashback amount, as well as the minimum amount of the first purchase to receive it was reported in explanatory footnotes in a difficult-to-read manner for a short time, the service explained.
In addition, the advertisement stated that Alfa-Bank is “the best mobile bank”, followed by an explanatory footnote: “according to Markswebb”. However, it was also presented in a difficult-to-understand manner for a short time and could not be considered as an objective criterion for comparing the advertised product with the products of other banks, the department believes.
Two other FAS claims against the bank in November were related to the advertising of a loan and a credit card.
