The US Treasury Department added to the sanctions list three tankers that transported Russian oil above the price ceiling of $60 per barrel. This is reported on the department's website.
The tankers Victor Bakaev, NS Champion and HS Atlantica, which came under restrictions, went to sea under the flag of Liberia. The first two vessels, according to the US Ministry of Finance, belong to Streymoy Shipping Limited and Sterling Shipping Incorporated, registered in the UAE. The third tanker is owned by the Liberian HS Atlantica Limited. The listed companies were also included in the sanctions list.
In December last year, the EU countries, Australia and the G7 introduced an embargo on sea supplies of Russian oil and a price ceiling of $60 per barrel. In early February, restrictions extended to petroleum products.
In mid-November, the US Treasury added to the sanctions list the first three oil tankers, which, according to the department, transported Russian oil under the flag of Liberia at a price above the established ceiling.
In May, the New York Times wrote that tankers carrying Russian oil began using technology to hide their location to circumvent sanctions. And in winter, the authors of the Economist magazine told how Russia is circumventing sanctions on the oil market; the text can be found in Russian, translated by Mediazona.
