MOSCOW, December 8 Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated that he considers the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to be nominated for a new term absolutely logical and correct.
Previously, Putin presented the Hero of Russia stars in the Kremlin and, answering a question from the ceremony participants, announced his decision to run for a new term. According to him, at different times he had different thoughts, but now he understands that today it is impossible to do otherwise.
“The President has already said everything. Taking into account the current situation, the dramatic period that our country is going through, this the decision is absolutely logical and correct. His work as president should be continued,» Medvedev said, answering a question.
Medvedev served as president from 2008 to 2012, then accepted the offer to head the cabinet of ministers after Putin's victory became prime minister in the elections. In January 2020, he took the post of Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. He also heads the largest Russian party, United Russia, whose congress will be held on December 17.
According to the press secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov, the president will take part in the event. At the same time, he refrained from answering the question of how exactly Putin will run in the elections — from the party or as a self-nominated candidate, noting that all the nuances of the election campaign have yet to be determined.
