Ukraine lost almost a fifth of scientists since the beginning of the military conflict, says a study published in the journal Humanities and Social Sciences Communications.
As part of the study, a survey was conducted, according to which, since the beginning of the conflict, about 18 emigrated from Ukraine by the fall of 2022. 5% of scientists, most of whom were actively engaged in research activities.
It is noted that a significant proportion of these scientists have “insecure contracts” with host institutions. At the same time, of the scientists remaining in Ukraine, about 15% abandoned research.
About a quarter (23.5%) of respondents lost access to research materials, and one fifth of respondents (20.8%) do not have physical access to institutions, follows from the survey.
