MOSCOW, December 17. The leader of the Moldovan opposition Party of Socialists, Igor Dodon, despite sharp attacks against President Maia Sandu and her PAS party, personally helped his political opponents avoid failure in the local elections, writes journalist Louis Auge in an article for Eureporter.
Author characterizes Dodon as an ideal oppositionist, “full of righteous anger and condemnation.” In particular, it recalls the continuous attacks on the current head of state on issues such as European integration, the fight against corruption or distancing from Russia.
«In a recent message on Telegram, Dodon called Sandu the «Moldovan Gorbachev», pointing to similarities between two politicians who were “not liked domestically <…> but they applauded abroad,” the article notes.
However, Auge continues, this image contradicts the decisions that Dodon recently made.
So, shortly after the November local elections, In which the ruling party showed disastrous results, losing to opposition forces in 11 major cities, local socialists suddenly began voting in tandem with PAS members. This allowed the latter to occupy key positions in local governments and administrations.
«If there is anyone “The one whom Sandu could thank for actual compensation for the damage caused by the humiliating performance of her party in the last elections is her sworn enemy Igor Dodon,” the author emphasizes.
Against this background, in Moldova they started talking about the fact that the leader of the socialists entered into a coalition with his main rival, although he himself rejected such statements, the journalist concluded.
