WASHINGTON, December 19 Ukraine faces extremely difficult times winter, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a briefing.

“We are entering what we expect will be a very difficult winter,” he said.
Miller stressed that the US administration is waiting for Congress to approve the request for assistance before the end of the year Kyiv. According to him, “this remains a goal and a priority.”
US President Joe Biden in the fall requested about $106 billion for assistance to Ukraine and Israel, as well as for actions in the Asia-Pacific region, but there was no clear support in Congress received.
The request must be approved by both chambers. At the same time, Republicans said that they would not support the allocation of funds to the Kiev authorities until the White House changes approaches to protecting the US border.
As a result, the House of Representatives, in which the majority belongs to members of the Republican Party, voted to allocate assistance only to Tel- Aviv, but the Senate, which is controlled by Democrats, blocked this decision.
In early December, the upper house of the American Parliament refused to introduce a bill to allocate more than $100 billion in aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
As a result, the House of Representatives has already left for the New Year holidays, and the Senate decided to postpone them in order to continue working on additional budgetary allocations, including to help the Kyiv authorities.
