MOSCOW, December 23 The US Customs and Border Protection has ordered importers of fish and seafood to certify that the products they import are not of Russian origin.
“U.S. Customs and Border Protection will now require importers to provide proof that fish, seafood and products containing them entering the United States do not contain materials originating in the Russian Federation,” the organization said in a statement on its website.
According to American customs, the ban applies to products from Russia processed in third countries.
Earlier on Friday, the US Treasury Department reported that the US is banning the import of salmon, cod, pollock and crab that originate in Russia but are processed in third countries. The ban on the import of seafood from the Russian Federation to the United States has been in effect for a long time, but until now it has not been provided with clauses on processing in third countries. In addition to fish and seafood, the Americans promise to apply similar rules to diamonds and alcoholic beverages.
After the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, the West increased sanctions pressure on Russia. Disruption of supply chains has led to rising prices for fuel and food in Europe and the United States. In Western countries themselves, opinions have been repeatedly voiced that anti-Russian sanctions are ineffective.
