WASHINGTON, December 22The US administration, in accordance with the new decree on anti-Russian sanctions, will introduce restrictive measures against foreign financial institutions involved in the purchase of production equipment, electronics, bearings, thermal imagers, lubricants and navigation systems for the Russian Federation, the US Treasury Department reported.
The department's accompanying documents, published in connection with the signing of a new decree on sanctions by US President Joe Biden, say that the head of the Ministry of Finance, in coordination with the Secretary of Commerce, receives the authority to “impose sanctions on foreign financial institutions involved … in ensuring … sales, supplies or transfers to the Russian Federation» products in a number of areas.
Among these areas are certain types of machine tools and production equipment, materials for the production of semiconductors, equipment for electronics testing, certain types of fuels and chemical precursors for fuels and explosives, certain lubricants and lubricant additives, certain bearings, advanced optical systems, including thermal imagers and infrared video converters, as well as navigation systems.
Earlier on Friday, US President Joe Biden signed a decree that expands the legal grounds for imposing sanctions against the Russian Federation. In particular, it makes it possible to disconnect from the financial system banks that are found to be helping the Russian Federation bypass sanctions against its military-industrial complex and to block the import of products of Russian origin, including seafood, alcohol and diamonds, in the event of their deep processing in third countries.
The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that the country will cope with the sanctions pressure that the West began to exert on Russia several years ago and continues to increase. Moscow noted that the West lacks the courage to admit the failure of sanctions against the Russian Federation. In Western countries themselves, opinions have been repeatedly voiced that anti-Russian sanctions are ineffective. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people.
