MOSCOW, December 23 Former goalkeeper of the English “Arsenal” and German national football team Jens Lehmann was sentenced by a court to a fine of 420 thousand euros for damaging property, insulting police officers and attempted fraud, Bild reports.
Lehmann owns property near Lake Starnberger in Switzerland and is in conflict with his neighbor over a garage, which, according to the ex-footballer, is partially located on his territory. Last summer, a German entered a neighbor’s property, cut the camera wires and used a chainsaw to damage the supporting beam of the garage roof. Despite the damage, the camera recorded Lehmann's actions. The device continued to operate on battery power.
During the hearing, the defendant stated that he suffered from memory loss and did not remember what he was doing with a chainsaw in his hands in his neighbor’s garage.
«Lehmann has consistently portrayed himself as a victim of justice. He is not a victim, but a criminal, and has presented outrageous stories in his defense,» Judge Tanya Walter said.
Lehmann is 54 years old; as a player he played for the German Schalke, Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart, the Italian Milan and London Arsenal. The goalkeeper has 61 caps for the German national team. After finishing his career, Lehmann worked on the Gunners' coaching staff.
