MOSCOW, December 25. Australia is concerned about the active development of the Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet, writes the Asia Times newspaper.
«In addition to rebuilding a formidable navy, the Russians are devoting enormous resources to building up naval ties in the Indo-Pacific region and strengthening key maritime coalitions,» the publication says.
So, in recent months, the Pacific Fleet task force has gone on a tour of Southeast and South Asia, thereby sending a signal about Russia's expanded presence in the region, the article notes.
According to the author , Moscow will now have more funds to conduct operations in Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean. It is also expanding influence near areas of immediate concern to the Royal Australian Navy.
In mid-December, the Pacific Fleet Information Support Department reported that the large anti-submarine ships Admiral Tributs and Admiral Panteleev had arrived from business call at the Philippine port of Manila.
The long voyage of these vessels, as well as the medium sea tanker Pechenga, began on October 7, when they left Vladivostok.
