MOSCOW, December 14. The Bolshoi Theater will present on December 14 on the historical stage the first ballet world premiere of the season, “The Queen of Spades,” staged by the famous choreographer Yuri Posokhov, the theater’s press service reported.
The first ballet premiere of the season will be the ballet “The Queen of Spades,” specially composed for the Bolshoi Theater by choreographer Yuri Posokhov, based on the story of the same name by Alexander Pushkin to the music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Yuri Krasavin. Posokhov has been collaborating with the Bolshoi Theater for a long time — in recent years he has staged such ballets as “A Hero of Our Time”, “Cinderella”, “Nureyev”, “The Seagull”.
“The Queen of Spades” is based on Tchaikovsky’s music, which was reworked by the St. Petersburg composer, Posokhov’s longtime collaborator Yuri Krasavin. Together they worked on the ballet «Magrittomania», which was performed for several years on the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theater. Krasavin is known to the audience of the Bolshoi Theater; last season his music was heard in Vyacheslav Samodurov’s ballet “Dancemania”. Also, at the request of the Bolshoi Theater, the composer wrote the score for the ballet “The Tempest”, which will premiere at the end of the season.
The scenery for the performance was created by Polina Bakhtina.
Possokhov was inspired by Pushkin’s story for his new work “The Queen of Spades”, the plot of which he thought about from a young age, not yet being a choreographer.

The director noted that Bolshoi Theater premieres Igor Tsvirko and Vladislav Lantratov are working enthusiastically and passionately on the image of Herman. As for Lisa, among the performers there is the real Lisa — Elizaveta Kokoreva, whom Possokhov met while working on the ballet «The Seagull», where she danced Zarechnaya, and whom he highly appreciates. Eleanor Sevenard will also perform in this role.
According to Posokhov, the Countess’s part is divided not only between two artists, but also between two “sexes.” The young countess is danced by young artists, and the old woman “Queen of Spades” is danced by wonderful dancers Vyacheslav Lopatin, Denis Savin and Georgy Gusev.
