ST. PETERSBURG, December 26 President On an excursion in Tsarskoe Selo, Azerbaijani Ilham Aliyev joined colleagues from other CIS countries, among whom was Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the correspondent reports.
This is the first meeting between Aliyev and Pashinyan after the events of 2023 in Nagorno-Karabakh, when the region completely came under the control of Baku.
The informal meeting of the heads of state of the CIS, which Russian President Vladimir Putin traditionally convenes before the New Year, started on Tuesday in St. Petersburg. The Russian leader invited colleagues from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to begin communication not at the negotiating table, but during a tour of the palace and park complexes of the Northern capital. The leaders of Belarus and Azerbaijan are holding bilateral negotiations at this time.
After Pavlovsk, the leaders of the Commonwealth countries went to Tsarskoe Selo, then they are expected in Peterhof. The informal CIS summit will end with a conversation at the Konstantinovsky Palace in Strelna.
