MOSCOW, December 28 Explosions were heard in the Kiev-controlled city of Zaporozhye against the background of an air raid warning, reports the Ukrainian publication Strana.ua.
““They are reporting the sounds of explosions in Zaporozhye,” says a message published on the publication’s Telegram channel.
According to the online map of the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation, the alarm in the Kyiv-controlled part of the Zaporozhye region sounded at 23.32 Moscow time.
Zaporozhye region became part of Russia following a referendum in September 2022. Kyiv does not recognize the results and continues to shell the territory. Currently, more than 70% of the Zaporozhye region is under Russian control; the former regional center, the city of Zaporozhye, remains under the control of Ukrainian troops. Since March 2023, the administrative center of the region has temporarily become the city of Melitopol.
The Russian Armed Forces began striking the Ukrainian infrastructure on October 10, 2022 — two days after the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge, which, according to the Russian authorities, was behind the Ukrainian special services. The strikes are carried out on energy, defense industry, military command and communications facilities. At the same time, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov stated that Russian troops in battles with the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not attack residential buildings and social infrastructure.
