The Russian Youth Theater (RAMT) has removed three performances based on the works of Boris Akunin from its repertoire. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the theater's press attache.
We are talking about performances based on the series of historical detective stories “The Adventures of Erast Fandorin” and the play “Yin and Yang”.
The agency previously wrote that the play “The Adventures of Fandorin” based on Akunin’s book was also filmed at the Moscow Provincial Theater. In addition, the St. Petersburg Alexandrinsky Theater received a request from the Investigative Committee in connection with the production of “One Eight Eight One” based on the writer’s play.
In mid-December, pro-government pranksters Lexus and Vovan published a recording of a conversation with the writer on behalf of representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, where he condemns the Russian invasion. After the release of the recording, Akunin himself noted that he had previously publicly opposed the war.
Chitai-gorod, Litres and the AST publishing house immediately refused to distribute the writer’s books. State Duma deputy Andrei Gurulev on SolovievLive called Akunin an enemy, and the pro-government movement “Call of the People” began to write complaints about him to law enforcement agencies.
Within three days, Rosfinmonitoring added the writer to the “list of terrorists and extremists” . His name had an asterisk, which indicates that a criminal case was opened against the author under an article on terrorism. Later, the Investigative Committee confirmed the existence of a case under articles on calls for terrorism (Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code) and military “fakes” (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code).
In Moscow, security forces came to the Zakharov publishing house, which also publishes books Boris Akunin, and the literary magazine “New World” removed the writer’s plays from the website and removed him from the list of authors. Today, the Ministry of Justice added the “Real Russia” project to the register of “undesirable” organizations. The founders of the organization are Akunin, actor Mikhail Baryshnikov and economist Sergei Guriev.
