A possible error by the crew when operating the An-24 could have caused an emergency landing of the plane in Yakutia, writes Shot. The board of the Polar Airlines company entered service 52 years ago and has seen four owners since then.
The An-24, registration RA-47821, made its maiden flight in August 1971, according to SHOT. For a long time, it passed from one airline to another: in 2011 it belonged to UTair Express, in 2015 to KrasAvia, in 2016 to Iraero, and already in 2018 to Polar Airlines.
As previously reported, the An-24 was performing a passenger flight on the route Yakutsk — Zyryanka — Srednekolymsk — Yakutsk, when during landing it went off the runway and ended up on the frozen Kolyma River. No one was injured and all passengers and crew were successfully evacuated.
