The Supreme Court overturned the sentence of ex-State Duma deputy Vadim Belousov; last year he was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison

The Supreme Court overturned the sentence of former State Duma deputy from A Just Russia Vadim Belousov, who was previously convicted in absentia in a bribery case (Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code). RIA Novosti reported this in court.

“The court upheld the defense’s cassation appeal, overturned the verdict and sent the case for a new trial to the Moscow City Court,” the agency was told in court.

According to the card on the Supreme Court website, the decision in the Belousov case was made today, December 27, its text has not been published. At the same time, as Mediazona previously noted, his name disappeared from the search database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on October 19.

In early August 2022, the Moscow City Court sentenced Vadim Belousov in absentia to ten years in a maximum security colony. According to the investigation, from 2010 to 2014, he and the then governor of the Chelyabinsk region, Mikhail Yuryevich, received more than 3 billion rubles from the management of Yuzhuralavtoban CJSC for providing state contracts for road repairs.

During the investigation, Belousov was under subscription to not to leave the country and was a State Duma deputy. He did not come to the announcement of the verdict in his case. The lawyer explained this by “[the deputy’s] busy schedule and previously scheduled work meetings.” After this, Belousov was put on the wanted list. On November 1, 2023, he was deprived of his parliamentary powers.
