VOLGOGRAD, December 29 Volgograd residents lit memorial candles and laid flowers in memory of those killed in the terrorist attack at the railway station in 2013, reports correspondent.
At the end of 2013, a double terrorist attack occurred in Volgograd. On December 29 at 12.43 an explosion occurred at the railway station. The bomb was detonated by a suicide bomber when he was stopped for inspection. 18 people died and dozens were injured. The second terrorist attack took place on December 30 at 08.27 on trolleybus No. 15 in the Dzerzhinsky district of the city, killing 16 people. As a result of two terrorist attacks, 34 people were killed, 78 people were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity.
At about 12 o'clock, people began to gather near the central railway station in Volgograd; here, near the entrance to the building, a granite slab was installed in memory of the victims of the terrorist attack on December 29, 2013. Every year, city residents come here to remember the dead.
«On the day of the terrorist attack, we were on duty, we remember what happened on that day. Over the years, this is not forgotten and will not be forgotten,» said the police officers who came to honor the memory of their deceased colleague Dmitry Makovkin, who stopped a suspicious man at the entrance of the station. The terrorist, seeing a policeman, detonated the bomb.
During the funeral ceremony, the names of all 18 killed in the terrorist attack were announced. Then a minute of silence was announced. After the memorial service for the victims, which was conducted by Metropolitan Theodore of Volgograd and Kamyshin, city residents laid flowers at the memorial sign.
