The Sovetsky District Court of Tomsk sentenced the coordinator of Navalny’s local headquarters and city Duma deputy Ksenia Fadeeva to nine years in prison; The state prosecution asked that she be sentenced to 10.5 years in prison. A listener who came to the meeting told Mediazona about this.

In addition, Fadeeva was fined 500 thousand rubles.

Fadeeva was found guilty of organizing the activities of an extremist community using her official position (part 3 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code) and participation in a non-profit organization that infringes on the personality and rights of citizens (Part 3 of Article 239 of the Criminal Code). The oppositionist's case was considered behind closed doors.

“What happened in this trial has nothing to do with justice. We've actually been bullied for the last week. The defense was limited in the stage of presenting evidence; the principle of adversarialism in criminal proceedings was grossly violated. The prosecution presented months of evidence over more than 25 court hearings. The defense was given four days to present evidence,” Fadeeva’s lawyer said after the verdict.

The lawyer clarified that the defense asked to acquit the client or apply an article that provides for acquittal provided that the person “voluntarily ceased activities in an extremist organization.”

The reason for the persecution was her work at Navalny’s headquarters. Fadeeva’s arrest became known in December 2021. First, she was banned from certain actions, then she was placed under house arrest, and in November of this year, the activist and politician was placed in custody.

The former head of Navalny’s network of headquarters, Leonid Volkov, said that after the arrest of Fadeeva’s Ufa colleague Liliya Chanysheva, he invited her to leave, but she remained in Russia: “Ksenia flatly refused: she wrote to me that she was scared, but she is a deputy, she has voters , she has a district, she has responsibility — she cannot leave her voters and her work in the Tomsk City Duma, where she was elected in 2020.”

In June 2021, the Moscow City Court recognized Navalny’s headquarters as an extremist organization and banned their activities. Then the Investigative Committee opened a case about an extremist community against Navalny and his associates. Sentences have already been handed down to Liliya Chanysheva in Ufa (7.5 years in prison), Vadim Ostanin in Barnaul (9 years in prison) and Alexei Navalny. All these processes took place behind closed doors.
